This is my very LAST post on this thread. The heading of the thread may be a bit ambigious. What I am absolutely sick of are dishonest  tradies. To see where I am coming from, on a regular basis I cop unreasonable bills for either  "emergency repairs" or for out of town IP repairs. I have nothing against honest trades people making a honest living, what cheesed me off is some unscrupulous  tradies seize the opportunity to charge ridiculous sum of money.
p.s. it doesn't mean the trade cost can't be lower.

you are right there, you are no legal wizard.

as usual, you stick your head into matters that dont concern you, for the sole purpose of ridicule and boosting your own ego.

Aggressive as usual, are you on steroid or something ? You should watch your manner on this forum and stop abusing your fellow property investors. As to taking  the agent to court, you'll have a hell chance of winning. Agents are there to earn a living. Don't accuse agent ripping you off, you should have done your homework before you signed him up !!!!

Just before I leave this topic, to the site admin : why isn't there a section in this forum to promote honest trades people, it should be simple enough to do. To those who were agitated by this topic bought to the open, have a good night.

I read your first post again and it says nothing about setting up a webpage. All you did was whine and moan and accuse property managers and tradies of corruption, collusion and extortion.

Most people here are smart enough to realise the forum has many many members who are tradies and they dont take too kindly to BASELESS accusations and downright lies from people who dont even have the decency of getting their facts straight.

Its simple…….if you dont like the price you are quoted, dont get the job done!

v8ghia, thanks for that. This is why a database of job costs will be useful so one can tell if a quote is reasonable or not. May be what I should have done in the first thread was to point out dishonest tradies are a small minority, but ripping off still happen every minute. If people happy to pay through the nose that's fine by me, but paying a plumber or electrician couple hundred bucks an hour is not on for me.

I don't know and DON'T CARE how many electricians and plumbers (or their relations) on this forum, I stand by my opinion that they charge far too much than they deserve. Tell me baseless accusations, a reverse cycle air-cond may cost you $500, the sparky will charge you $800 to install. How ridiculous is this ?

    get over it, seriously.

you actually believe whining and moaning will bring prices down?

I think real estate agents and solicitors are much bigger ripoff merchants than tradies…….

if you read my post carefully you will see I am trying to set up a web page to help our fellow property investors and solicit other suggestions. I am sure there are many other crooks in the community but dishonest tradies are those I, as a property investor, have to deal with everyday. We can just sweep the whole thing under the carpet or bring it out to the open and find ways to deal with the problem.

Sharlene, thanks for the kind offer but don't want to impose on you any further. I know there is disquiet among property investors and hope something constructive come out of this thread. I am seriously thinking to set up a web page to list all job costs and to refer honest tradies.  Any other suggestions ?

I think sometimes those accountants & lawyers frequently mentioned in forums such as this are not more knowledgeable or provide better services than those who don't advertise as much. C & N will charge you by the minutes at high rate, so make sure you have a deep pocket.

In nsw it’s the office of state revenue, web site http://www.osr.nsw.gov.au.
Other states have different names but something like SRO (state revenue Office ) in vic etc.

I spent $2700 setting up a HDT in Melbourne, there was no instruction on how to use (e.g. borrow loan in individual names etc). Since then bought couple of IPs with the HDT, nothing but trouble. e.g. liable to $2500 nsw land tax due to the use of the trust. I am very suspecious as well if the whole thing was a con by accountants & solicitors peddling trusts, just like this bull dust by airlines and hotels that one need to travel somewhere else to have a good holiday.
