    The reed has has to be down on merbau decking. The reed acts as water drainage,balance and grip.
    I build my 2 decks with the reed down base on the timber whole salers and my carpenter advised. I bought my merbau decking timbers from the mob in Campbellfield, pretty good prices and quality http://www.outdecoliving.com.au
