Thanks for the help guys. The Bantac’s website is really helpful. Looks like you have to get a private ruling. This could be done but I don’t know about my employer getting involved in paying for IP expenses, but I could be wrong.

My accountant got back to me. He’s suggesting transferring ownership to me (no stamp duty is payable between spouse’s). But this would mean income is apportioned to me as well as expenses. Not as good as income to wife, expenses to me but better at least.

    Alexander2,

In February’s ‘Money’ magazine (pg 76), there is an article explaining the important details in selecting your homeloan. Plus there are the top 5 home loans listed by different categories further into the magazine. Good reading.

    SIS,

Julia’s tax rates look like the latest, do you mean there may be changes in the pipeline (as I believe).

    Fullout,

I normally paint bathroom tile walls (re-tile the floor) if they are in good condition. I think the brand i use is Johnson (don’t quote me). You’ll need to purchase the base paint as well. It’s more expensive than normal paint, takes longer to apply (3 coats) but works very well.

    Simon,

Have checked out the website for ‘Strategic Wealth’ and it sounds like what I’m after. Will contact them and see how we go. Thanks

    Monyet,

My loan is through Homepath and I am very happy with them. The service is very net based and I’m told they will soon have all loan details accessible via the net. There is also a 24hr help over the phone, and all dealings with these guys have been good.

    Regards, Dave

    Simon,

Thanks for the reply. I’ve just realised if I don’t earn money in Australia, I can’t reduce my tax bill ny negative gearing!!?? Hence increasing my loan amount by redrawing extra repayments isn’t worth it.

I forgot to mention I live around the N.Ryde area of NSW in relation to a good accountant, advisor.

    Dave,

Redraw wont help you unless you draw the money for a income producing asset.

It is the purpose of the loan that counts.

A redraw is viewed as another loan and if you use it for another home it aint deductible.

This is where offset is handy. It preserves the original loan.
