    hmmm im going to be investing in melbourne, people at work seem to be keen on moving into the city or buying there so there is backing behind the trends ive been reading about. thanks for ur responses. my plan is to get a house as my first property as i feel itl help build a portfolio due to capital gains etc. is that a valid opinion?

    erikh, thanks for the references. i have read both steve's books and another one forgot the title but i think it was "one million dollar portfolio in one year" or something along those lines. as for my goals, i am after a combination of both as i need some growth in equity to expand the portfolio (open to opinoins here)

    il track down some of the books and resources you recommended this weekend and get cracking. i dont have a lot of time left if i want the first home owners grant.

    thanks for your help, we gota do some calculations i suppose but as a benchmark what kind of deposits r banks looking for these days??
