    Thanks Mei.

I have never actually worked in Singapore so there isn’t CPF to use.

I suppose I can buy a new HDB but the rule is that I cannot rent it out within X years of purchase.

My in Laws are PRs (Aussie citizens) so I’m not sure if the radius requirement to get a grant applies here.

It seems like the HDB price growth is tightly regulated by the government, if this so, then price growth will be limited.

I would prefer Condos but rental markets seems weak. A landed property would be out of the question.

    Any comments?
    Appreciated.

    Hi all,

I’m a Singaporean living in Sydney.

I have 2 properties here but am interested to know the prospects of investing in property in Singapore.

From what I have read, it seems tricky to invest in Singapore property. HDB (government-subsidised flats) are tightly regulated and private (landed) properties are very expensive. What about Condos? Do they need high maintenance?

I have never bought a flat in Singapore and don’t know how to go about it. My parent-in-laws are keen to help us get a property there but I would like to convince them buying here would be a better option (joint venture)

    Any thoughts would be great!

    Luke,

What a story! Yes I agree with what you guys have said so far. Let’s continue to make every cent count and that has made me to live a no frills lifestyle, and I’m still very happy and grateful.

Check out the various programs on sponsoring children. I’m sure you can find the info you need.

    Hi Steve,

    You read my post!!! [specool]

    Thanks for all the comments.
If we can make a difference, we should try to make it happen.

One advice that we’ve been given for writing letters to these kids is that we should write something about ourselves and not what we own and have achieved. These children do not have wants but needs. What we say have an impact, seen or unseen. I realised that we sometimes identify ourselves with what we have and own but less of what we actually are. I find that a refreshing challenge.

One of the challenges I put to myself is to create wealth to impact the unfortunate ones and I think I am learning to build something that will last, hopefully.

Yeah…I think the strata mgt fee is killing me slowly..it has increased quite dramatically over the last 2 yrs. Sell up and rent? Possible strategy.

I’m also thinking about renting out PPOR and rent somewhere else but it seems like the rent that I will be able to get is similar to the rent that I will pay if I move into renting.

is that some sort of guide to help one to arrive at a better judgment?

my PPOR is 12 yo…max rent is about $2-90 per week and bought at $335K.

renting elsewhere would be around the $300pw mark.

also i have another investment property… any idea?

    MadInvestor

That’s the joy of investing in RE.
Things do break down and we just have to battle them as they come. There’s not much point worrying about it.

Do the sum. If you sell it now, will you forgo a greater profit in few year’s time when the upswing arrives?
Property is a lot more stable than shares…that should make you feel a little more secure.

Hey I’m interested in Central Coast properties.
I last visited CC in August and found that the property prices have been rising.

I just wonder if I should buy. Also, I am unfamiliar with CC. I don’t mind coming up from Sydney.

Please keep me informed about the CC investor club.

    Hi Doogs,

    Thanks for that.
At least, it looks like it is depreciable.

    George,

You said that you are young and have bought a place for more than 2 million. Congrats. You have used your inheritance well, if not you are a very high income earner.

For most people, buying a million dollar house for investment is out of their reach.
The higher the returns, the higher risk. One must ask, can I manage the risk and manage vacancies? What if no one rents? You’ll have to come up with the money to pay the mortgages.
And you’ll need a lot of after-tax money to do that.

If that’s the game you play, then it’s your game.
Most people are not in the same league as to buy a houses in eastern suburbs in Sydney. BTW, eastern suburbs are difficult to afford in Sydney.

So I really think that if buying high end properties is your way of earning large amount of capital gain, go on. Let the rest of us to build our wealth a different way.

    quote:

Im not comparing postive cashflow properties to Sydney in general, I’m comparing them to decent properties in the eastern suburbs. Purchasing 100 studios in Bondi is not going to put you on the Rich 200 list for example. I purchased a property in Vaucluse in ’99 for $2,300,000 and had it rented for $2,000 a week. This time last year I was paid $4,970,000 for it. I didn’t go anywhere to invest the profit thats for sure.

There is a category “Forum Fun” on this website. That would be a appropriate place for your riddles, if that’s what you like.

    Well…think about this…
whenever you post a new thing on this forum, it pushes the rest of the topics down the ladder..it is really hard to look at the post posted an hour ago when you have riddle 1, riddle 2 riddle 3 all separately posted…

    I don’t know about others…I wouldn;t encourage this…it’s like flooding.
