Funnily enough, the three insurance agents that I dealt with in the early-mid 1990s are all financial advisors now :)

They followed the money – can’t be too dumb :)

hmm – at 25 the Internet was the next big thing but not there yet (Netscape had only just floated. I’d already founded 3 companies…..and the property market was in decline but hadn’t bottomed.

That’s remarkable similar to today if you substitute another sector for dotcoms…

Buyers’ Agent is NOT another term for birddogging.

Buyer’s Agents are licensed real estate agents who work on behalf of buyers rather than sellers.

Birddogging remains illegal in Australia in all states.

Just check the real estate laws – they are pretty clear on the matter.

So my solution (or Plan B) has been to be bullish on oil stocks.

The strategy has been working nicely for the last year.

There’s been some excellent returns from buying shares in oilers, and in pursuing more direct investments in the oil industry.

There are still plenty of opportunities out there for those willing to do their research to…[Read more]

    I’d trust the mortgage broker.

The outcomes they want out of the deal are clear and there’s a clearly defined exit.

In the long run the most successful people are those who:

    a) Identify a winning formula & stick to it
    b) Change winning formulas when everyone else copies it

I reckon Steve’s demonstrated he can do this – which makes it a good idea to EMULATE him, but not necessarily to FOLLOW him.

    residentialwealth,

Frankly I’d regard 12% for commercial as pretty poor if it’s gross, OK if net.

But it also depends on the CG potential.

I’m pretty much in agreement with Way.

thecrest’s comments on stuff not addressing the point is also on the ball & is purely an administrative issue. It’s something that is managed at Somersoft but not here.

Minter Ellison is a good firm. I’ve worked with them several times in the past (as the appointed lawyers for several businesses I founded).

However you do need to make sure you’re dealing with good people in the organisation….of course all their people are good, but some are naturally more expert in the areas of law you need than others.

    I agree with Monopoly.

Frankly I’m of the view that you should reassess your portfolio every few years & shed the poor performers. Sure they might still make you money, but your dollars can be better invested elsewhere.

Treat them as the cost of learning to be a better investor.

I’ve never considered athletes or indeed any sports people in general to be heroes. However I do consider them role models (in some cases poor ones).
