    Hi everyone,

I’m a tax accountant based in Melbourne, and I see a lot of questions come up around finding the right accountant, so I thought I’d share a bit of general information that might help anyone currently looking.

When choosing a tax accountant, it’s worth checking a few key things:

They’re registered with the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB)
They have experience with your situation (individual, sole trader, company, trust, investor, etc.)
They’re proactive about tax planning, not just lodging returns
They explain things clearly and are responsive when questions come up
They’re familiar with ATO compliance, audits, and correspondence
In Melbourne especially, many clients are contractors, small business owners, or juggling multiple income streams, so having an accountant who understands those structures can make a big difference.

Even if you’re just doing a basic return, a short conversation with an accountant can often uncover missed deductions or potential issues before they become expensive later on.

If anyone has general questions about what to look for in an accountant, or how to prepare before meeting one, I’m happy to help where I can.
