Future Value and Finding Deals

HI All –

I’ve been investing for some time in the States, we’re looking to start up here now.

Here is my where my Aussie knowledge gap lies:

1. How does one determine the future value of a property? IE, AFTER all the changes have been made — Reno, subdivide, what not? Is there a database of sold properties so I can find some comparables and figure out if I have a lemon?

and

2. How does one go about finding said deals? Normally, I would drive around in my chosen area, find a gem, call up my title person and get the owner’s personal phone number and address. I have been told that because of privacy laws I cannot do that here? I hate to rely soley on agents… They are very unhelpful here.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
