Drywall for bathroom

Hi All,

im well underway with my first reno, and have ripped out the old bathroom.

I need to put up new plasterboard. Im going to use gyprock aquachek (or equivalent), but ive got some queries on what to do under the plasterboard and at the joins and corners

Ive read (on US sites) that you should put plastic sheeting under the plasterboard as a moister barrier. Is that necessary in Aus?

At the corners and where the sheet meets the floor what is the best way to do the joins? The floor will be tiles over a concrete slab and i intend to put a membrane down prior to tiling. The wall will be tiled floor to ceiling. Its actually a small bathroom so with the vanity and toilet one wall will partically have a membrane right across.

I was going to use tape with bond breaker on the corners, which i think shouldnt be a problem. Im more worried at the wall/floor junction. I know to leave a 5-6mm gap at the bottom of the sheet, but then what is the best way to fill the gap and ensure none of the tiles will crack or have any water damage in the future?

Go to the CSR or Boral website sites for the appropriate installation methodology. The Building Code of Australia stipulates that all wet areas are to be waterproofed using a proprietary system of waterproofing ie get someone in who will provide the mandatory 10 year warranty on waterproofing installations - it is too critical an area to cut corners as the damage will far outweigh the cost of having it done right in the first place when access is available.

Tank it with a good quality membrane & you should have no worries.
