Question regarding overseas investment using SMSF trustees ?mcp200 [2 Posts] Hi All, I'm new to the forum We have SMSF setup as trustees and wanted to know if we can still invest in US properties please? Or does the SMSF have to be LLC? Can you offer any advice ?much appreciated Regards, Qlds007 [9178 Posts] Simon The question of whether is has to be an LLC is NO. The question of whether is should be an LLC is totally different and would depend on your risk aversion and whether you wanted to protect the balance of the Assets in the fund and be personally liable for any potential litigation. I now what i would prefer. Cheers Yours in Finance Richard Taylor - richard@tayloredfinancialsolutions.com.au Tel: 07 3720 1888 Paullie [210 Posts] We are currently having ours setup. We chose to use a company trustee and directors as custodians. A good question is, should another company be used as the custodian? If not are the custodians private assets still protected?
