  • So now that the general election has been, what do we think of the market? The news seems to suggest the market picking up again. What are your thoughts? Has the bubble been sufficiently deflated by now?

    Oh, Sorry… stupid question.
I just realised the eTax website I had been reading was actually a tax agent website, not ATO’s.
It’s called eTax.com.au. That was very confusing.

Apologies, please just ignore my question above.

    Thanks,
    Catts

    Hi All,

I am starting my 2016 tax return process and am confused with e-Tax / Mytax.
The e-Tax is being decommissioned and replaced by MyTax. But both seems to be allowed for 2016.
So any body can share, please, an opinion or two as to which one is better?

    Thanks

    Hi Lisabellan,

Your scenario is indeed called cross collateralisation, which according to Investopedia:

Cross collateralization is the act of using an asset that is currently being used as collateral for a loan is also used as collateral for a second loan. If the debtor was unable make either loan’s scheduled repayments in time, the affected…[Read more]

  • Hi Benny,

My strategy is not on the options you provided.
    Mine are:
    – choppy waters ahead, stock up on cash and make sure my finances are lean
    – keeping an eye out to future expenses and cash flow
    – also get ready to buy if there is anything ‘interesting’ comes up

So essentially – choppy waters ahead, lots of people going to get in trouble.…[Read more]

    Hi Wezwaz,

    Interesting comment there:

I do not mean to argue with you, after all I am trying to get interested in equities and other financial products.

Can’t the same be said for Property markets? Ie. it never fails to reach new heights. I think, in the long term, both markets behave in tangent. The difference is Property market takes a lot…[Read more]

  • Sorry… quick question, please… how does scrapped negative gearing present great opportunity? Is that because prices are expected to fall?

    Thanks,

  • Hi Attila,

I am also questioning it – students usually do not look after the property as well as professionals. Hence usually there is more wear & tear + maintenance costs.

To answer your question: yes it is best to focus on the cash flow and not capital gain. And hence careful / conservative cashflow calculation is really important, factoring…[Read more]

Interesting questions. I obviously don’t know much, but here is a summary of what the bright minds of the world says:
    1. Bank of England, millions of jobs (accounting, banking, insurance, retail sales, marketing, medics, police force, journalists, lawyers, etc) will be replaced by robots / machines in 20 years time.…[Read more]

Agree with Chuckeye… too much headwinds, so I am simply observing the market (Brissie and Melbourne) until end of financial year and then decide what to do next.

@Dean – I said 3 of the top 4. The 3 are Euro Zone, China and Japan. The exception is US. I did say “..only US seems to be getting better.”
    ;)

Having said that, at 0.5% there is not much ammos either before US get into negative territory like the Euro zone and Japan.

    Cheers,
